Summery In the movie Which Way Home, cameras follow several children and adolescence on their journey from Mexico to the United States in hopes of a better life. This is done by hitchhiking on several freight trains illegally crossing the border. Of the thousands that attempt the feet of crossing the border in this manor are roughly five percent according to this documentary. For these children and adolescences, there is an additional risk for this type of travel, due to their cognitive abilities being underdeveloped. Therefore, these individuals may not make the best choices in this form of travel. Moreover, with border patrol apprehending one hundred thousand children during a year, this is no easy task. This comes from the Piagetian idea of the preoperational stage, most children a primaril y egocentric and tend to overgeneralize many rules (Hutchison, 2013, p. 113). Therefore, in the mind of Kevin, the reasons that his family is struggling are directly tied to him. He has the inability to recognize outside factors that contribute to the context of his family. Additionally, without the support and guidance from his parents, he is unable to overcome these thoughts. Without this support then, Kevin has most likely suffered from some residual effects that could have contributed to his decisions.
